Lucas Amaral

Hello!

My name is Lucas Amaral, I am an educator and artist practicing in Lovington, New Mexico.

I was born and raised in Massachusetts, where I attended Massachusetts College of Art and Design. It was at MassArt that I had the privilege of learning from Nicole Tamarin, an incredibly talented artist that provided insight on the world of art licensing.

When I attended MassArt I felt a disconnect from almost all of my classes. Most classes were geared towards children's book illustration, character art, or fine art. I was able to produce artwork in all of these categories, but they never fulfilled me. It was during Nicole's class and her teachings of the art licensing world that I finally found where I belong.

As a child, I spent most of my time with my mother and aunt in stores such as TJ Maxx, Target, Home Goods, and Marshall's. I vividly remember being fascinated with the patterns and artwork on home decor and different products in store. I loved watching the products come together to create a sense of unity in my home, especially during fall! The warm fall tones in the gingham on the kitchen table, complementing the decorative pumpkin patch fruit bowl on display on the kitchen counter. Paired with the warm colored garland of fall leaves draped below the cabinets.

As the artist, I view collections for licensing products as a puzzle, and each design is a piece that completes the puzzle. I am the creator of each piece, my goal is to make each piece fit perfectly into the entire collection. The beauty is revealed with how my artwork appears in the homes of others, and how they decide the puzzle fits for them. If they use each piece of the puzzle that I've designed, then I know I have succeeded as a creator.
